Richard Rawlings is car crazy. What else could explain the man’s life?
He bought his first car when he was 14.
He had owned three cars before graduating high school.
He worked three different jobs – firefighter, police officer, paramedic – before turning 21.
And all of it was to feed his voracious car-buying appetite. He even took a bullet once when he was defending one of his cars from a carjacker.
Now he works his dream job as head of the Gas Monkey Garage, a hot rod shop that has built cars for enthusiasts all over the world.
But do you know what our favorite thing about Richard Rawlings is?
He loves Dodge.
“When it comes to Dodge cars, I probably know ninety-nine percent of them.” That’s big talk, but he backs it all up, dropping model names like it’s his job. He’s especially passionate about muscle cars, citing the muscle car era between 1967 and 1972 as “just bananas.” We know he’s a true believer too because talking about his dream muscle car, he wants to strip everything out of there. No back seat, no heater, no radio, no creature comforts at all. Just replace it all with a big motor.
You should watch the video for yourself, but know also that Rawlings is particularly excited for the return of the Shaker hood on the 2015 Challenger. He reminisces about sketching out muscle cars when he was a wee lad, flattening out the hood only to add in that memorable bump right in the middle.
“It just doesn’t get any cooler than that,” he concludes.
Gas Monkey Garage has an official website that you can visit here. The 2015 Dodge Challenger and Charger will be out later this year, and we couldn’t be more excited about their arrival. Make sure you keep up with us at Leith Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM.
