For many people, 4-wheel drive is synonymous with Jeeps. It’s why Jeep drivers can look at a weather forecast calling for snow and not have to change their plans. It’s why Jeeps can go anywhere, no matter how rough the road gets. Jeep 4WD is why everyone else was getting passed by people in Jeeps on their way home this past Wednesday.
But calling it 4WD isn’t actually specific enough when it comes to Jeep. Not when there are ten transfer cases across Jeep’s lineup. When you talk about 4WD in a Jeep, you have to talk about Rock-Trac, Selec-Trac, Command-Trac, and more. Each system works in its own way to make whatever Jeep it’s a part of the best off-roading, adverse-conditions, all-purpose vehicle available.
Because each 4WD transfer case is unique, Jeep has made a series of helpful info videos explaining how each one works and under what conditions you should engage the 4WD. We’ve embedded some of the best below, but if you want to see more, just visit Jeep’s YouTube channel. You can also read up on each individual transfer case on the Jeep webpage, here. If you want to feel what it’s like to drive a true 4WD vehicle, stop by Leith Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM for a test-drive. We’ll be waiting for you.
