Let subtlety be damned.

We knew that a 2015 Challenger SRT was coming, and we’re getting one with a 6.4-liter 392 Hemi V-8. It’ll make 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque, and that’s exactly what ninety-five percent of muscle car enthusiasts have been waiting for.

Tim Kuniskis knows that there are some people who want more. He speaks of that five percent who need more power, more torque, more brakes, and more challenge. That’s why Dodge is releasing the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat.

The Hellcat is the most powerful V-8 engine ever built and fitted to a Chrysler Group vehicle. “Astonishing” isn’t enough to describe this supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi – made by retooling and improving ninety percent of the components of a 392 Hemi – which delivers over 600 horsepower. The numbers Dodge is projecting aggravate the logic centers of our brains. Both the Hellcat and the standard SRT Challenger will feature a Torqueflite eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, as well as an option for a Tremec six-speed manual.

There are three preset driving modes for the Hellcat, including Default, Sport, and Track. Then there is a Custom setting, which will allow the driver to tweak and adjust the steering, suspension, shift-speed, and everything else. Dodge claims more than 200 various drive mode combinations.

When you purchase an SRT Hellcat, you’ll receive two key fobs: black and red. The black key is limited. Using it shackles the engine’s output to a mere 500 horsepower, and engaging “Valet Mode” will further inhibit the car by disabling paddle shifters, drive mode selection, and launch control. Using the red key unlocks the car’s true potential.

Beyond the power, you can also expect all the little details that SRT is known for. In-depth instrumentation readouts, high-bolstered seats, Laguna leather upholstery, Brembo brakes, and performance tires, plus a ton more. All that and you’ll be driving the meanest-looking car on the road.
