Two weekends ago, a festival of a sort was held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It was a celebration of all things Dodge, from Hemi to SRT and Demon to Hellcat. Featuring a car show, drag race, and other thrilling events, Mopars at the Strip is an annual event that all manner of enthusiasts flock to to bask in the glory of the most American muscle cars.
This year’s event featured a performance by Queensrÿche. Also, for this year only, any owner of a Hellcat Challenger gained free admittance to the weekend.
Dodge had an official presence at the event and a representative of their YouTube channel on hand to interview several of the most enthusiastic entrants. The gentleman in this video brought a 1965 Dodge Dart that had been in his family since it was new, though he’s since modified its engine and transmission to give it a bit more gusto.
This 1971 Charger was the product of a single week of labor, with the owner up all hours of the night doing most of the work himself. He drove it more than two hundred miles from Phoenix, AZ, to get to the event and got 23 mpg on his trip. And to think muscle cars get a bad rap as gas guzzlers.
Finally, this snakecharmer became personally acquainted with one of the engineers at Dodge, which helped him get several factory modifications on his 2014 Viper. Having owned a fourth-generation Viper, he said the new one is an improvement in every way. He’s also ordered a Hellcat, so you know he’s got racing stripes on his heart.
There’s plenty more where these came from, so if you want to see more highlights from the event, here’s the full playlist as it appears on the Dodge YouTube channel.
If you’re looking to get in on the fun of owning a Dodge, all it takes is a call or visit to your local dealer. Leith CDJR is happy to oblige you if you’re in the Raleigh area.
