1000-Mile Road Test of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited

At Leith, we like to do in-house test-drives so that we can give you a better idea of the car you’re interested in, as well as a blow-by-blow rundown of the Leith experience. We love doing them because they’re just as much fun for us as they will be for you, as they should be. Our lone regret is that we don’t get to spend more time with the cars themselves. To make up for this, we think it’s our duty to share more in-depth reviews with you.

Take, for example, this Car and Driver review of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited. Here, their driver takes the slightly less-rugged trim level of the revived name plate on a 1000-mile road test. Afterward, they label it “the competent, family-friendly compact crossover that’s been absent from every Chrysler-group showroom for the past decade.”

In the text, they note that the new Cherokee shares only a passing resemblance to the old one, but that this isn’t a bad thing. The typically irreverent line you can pull from their description says to “ignore the vocal throng upset that this Cherokee doesn’t look like a cardboard box.” Instead they admire the fact that the Cherokee is able to distinguish itself from all the other crossovers on the market.

Car and Driver’s press-car was equipped with a 3.2-liter V-6, and made use of Chrysler Group’s new nine-speed automatic transmission. They also give a thorough account of their experience with the driver assistance package, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear-cross traffic alert. If you want to read their full thoughts on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited, check out the full article in the April 2014 edition of Car and Driver, or on their website.

The Limited is a very family-friendly version of a great car, excellent in providing all manner of creature comforts to driver and crew. Still, if you’re looking for a car that can get some work done, the Cherokee Trailhawk is always an option. As a bonus, check out this video of one tearing up some sand dunes.
